Time For Our First Ever 'Fall Frenzy!'

I don't know about you, but I'm over Summer. Over it! The last few days have brought us cooler temps and have me dreaming of Fall. There's always some debate in blogger land of the socially acceptable time to start dragging out the mums and apple scented candles. Well, my friends, I'm taking it upon myself to declare the month of September a "Fall Frenzy!"

Easy Storage Solution--Teenager Approved!

Today's project is a special one (for me anyway). My niece, Kaley, emailed me the other day telling me that she was working on her very own Pinterest project to solve a 'storage issue' in her room. She calls it a 'storage issue' her mother calls it a 'freakin' mess'. Po-tay-tow -- Pah-tat-toh.

Kaley was inspired by a post by Mandy's Krafty Exploits. She made a couple changes including wrapping the box AND the lid, to you know, hide her 'super secret teenager stuff'. She also used a paper box (think-reams of printer paper) instead of a diaper box. And, I love this idea because paper boxes have lids! Genius! I love the way that it turned out and also love the fact that she sought out a solution to a problem and did it herself! Go, Kaley, GO! 

On a side note, Kaley--I think you've now earned the role of Grandma's present wrapper.

Homemade Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

If you follow along on our Facebook page you may know that we recently made our very first batch of Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.

Easy? Yes

Delicious? Yes

A Super Big Deal For Me? Absolutely! 

I have always wanted to venture into different flavors of homemade ice cream. So when I finally found a yummy basic vanilla I decided to start experimenting with other flavors. Mint Chocolate Chip has always been one of my favorites--and it seemed easy enough. I didn't really have a recipe I just altered the basic vanilla. 

Mmmm...chocolate.

Mmmm....chunks of chocolate.

Any mint will do.

Believe me, it's worth it.

Feel free to adjust your mint-y-ness by adding more or less of the mint extract. Also, if you feel like mint ice cream HAS to be green--just add a few drops of green food coloring. I left it out and it tasted pretty fab. One more thing, I added the vanilla to balance out the mint. Without it, it tasted a bit 'toothpaste-y." You might find that you want more or less vanilla. It really is a pretty flexible recipe. The above amounts worked for us!  Enjoy!

I Heart August!

I really do. For several reasons, really. First, August means Back to School and even as a kid this made me happy. Going back to school meant shopping for school supplies and new school clothes. How can you not love fresh crayons and new jeans?

Another reason I love August is because my sister, myself, and several of my favorite people celebrate birthdays this month! So YAY for August birthdays!

Change is GOOD!

Honestly, I just can't believe all that has happened in the past 6 weeks. When I started this blog I wasn't really sure what I wanted or the direction that I hoped to take. All that I knew was that I wanted to write and have a reason to do so. As with all long term projects, purposes change and evolve--and this one is no different. So, I want to share a few changes with you.

First of all, I love Pinterest--nothing has changed there! I love the creativity and the sense of community as everyone shares their brilliant ideas. I love learning new things by recreating these amazing projects--some of which help me organize, feed my family, or beautify our space. I still plan on recreating my favorite Pinterest projects and sharing the results with you--but in order for me to make time for the new elements of my blog I won't be doing them every day. I may be working on a project each day or I might be doing a write up every day but I may not have a new project and a post every single day.

The reason behind my change in direction is to make time for some new blog features that I had no idea even existed when I started. I'm excited to share with you family friendly movie reviews, giveaway events, and guest features by talented artists and bloggers. To my fellow bloggers, I'm looking forward to co-hosting a weekly blog-hop and hope that you'll join in the fun!

I would have never imagined that when I started this little blog that I would have already started to make friends with so many wonderfully talented women from around the world. I am learning so much from all of you and you all are the reason my blog is starting to evolve.

Fried Green Tomatoes Review

I am so excited for the opportunity to partner with Mommy Bear Media. I love to watch movies from every genre and was happy to write a review here on Team Ibrahim. A match made in Hollywood!  

I may be one of the very few people who, until yesterday, had never watched this movie. It's always been on my "watch list" but, for some reason or another, I never had. Some might say that I spent too much time in the early nineties watching the same movies over and over and rarely branched out. My husband is often shocked by the movies I haven't watched..that is, until he is reminded that I have seen the Back to the Future series no less than 14 bazillion times.

Fried Green Tomatoes, is a good clean movie which covers it all--tragedy, comedy, and drama.  The movie alternates between present day and the past as Jessica Tandy's character (Ninny Threadgoode) tells Evelyn, played by Kathy Bates, of the happenings of a small town in 1920s Alabama. It is through Ninny's stories that Evelyn learns how to assert herself with her husband and the world around her.  

I really enjoyed this movie and I am happy to add it to our collection.  I'm looking forward to watching it again so I can pay more attention to the lesser known characters as they all have very important roles in the plot development.  

Would I watch it again? Yes

Is it family friendly? Yes, however, the plot is most likely too complicated for young children to follow, but they could be in the same room with out issue.
